I’ve been unemployed for a month now.. not by choice by the way.. and my morale and self-esteem are at its lowest. I feel worthless actually.

I want to move the wedding until I feel worthy again. I dont want to get married when I’m this insecure.

But there’s a thin line between moving the wedding and canceling it altogether. I dont want to cross that line.

Damn recession!!!!

But unfortunately.. Im a dessert type of gal.. I can eat dessert all day.. and when I wake up I’d still be looking for something sweet.

So at the end of the day we decided to skip the caterer’s package.. and look for another supplier for the cake.

I, then, came across the name of Alex Franco. Truth be told.. I haven’t heard of a non-fondant wedding cake so I got intrigued.

I got more intrigued when his former clients talked about how good and decadent his cake is.. and how nice Alex Franco is..

So I decided to give it a try..

And yeah.. IT’S REALLY THAT GOOD!!!!

BUT… there’s something you must know… The designs are limited if you’re going for non-fondant cakes.. Icings are a lot harder to design than your average fondant.. He uses fresh fruits and flowers though.. so the cake still looks scrumptious and it tastes even better.. The best tasting wedding cake I had so far..

Luzel was the most-detailed bride.. I know.. clap! clap! From the letterpressed invites.. the chocolate escort cards.. personalized in every detail..

I would have responded with a blank face.. I mean.. event what?!! My oh my.. People could actually invent things to make your expenses shoot to the roof.

But when I saw what an event stylist could do.. My oh my…. I want I want!! (If only I could afford it!!)

Among all the event stylist (including those merely pretending to be one).. only one work stood out among the rest.. It was that of Henry Pascual. I really have very high standards and he always surprises me with his works. Im always in awe.

Then during a foodtasting event in one of the wedding expo.. I stood in line at the buffet and was complaining to the attendant about the dirty plates.. A man behind me also said, “Ayaw ni tita jhet ng ganyan!”

He smiled.

I smiled.

And then he said, “Im Henry by the way.”

All I can blurt out was… “I really, really like you.. but I can’t afford you!!” (Im sure he heard that one countless of times before)

I proceeded to find a table and said goodbye to Henry.

Only to find out that he will be sitting beside me.

So there I met a very friendly.. as some would say BFF-worthy person.. He was really nice.. Genuinely nice in fact. Such genuineness that you wouldn’t expect from someone of his stature.

I also summoned up the courage to ask how much his rates would be for my venue.. and he said P170,000.00 (All I can think of was oh shit!!).. Oh my God.. I really can’t afford him.

He also told me lots of stories about my venue.. about the month Im getting married.. and even horror stories about wedding cancellations.

After the meal.. He stood up.. Beso.. He smells really good too..

So in honor of his talents.. Here are some of his works.. And if you can afford him.. That would be one of the best decisions you’ll ever make.

I already have a design so I’ll just have our ever reliable neighborhood mananahi copy the design.. But then again.. What if a simple mananahi cant copy the design? What now?!

So for my peace of my mind I decided to interview and visit couturiers.. The first one I met was Cecilio Abad. I’ve been to his website countless of times..but so far here are my favorites…

I find myself in awe of his talent. He genuinely loves his craft no doubt about that.. Until he quoted me the price! hehehehe.. So stupid of me I thought he was on the somewhat affordable side because he only has a multiply account and not his own website.. but NO! And everytime I blink the prices goes up…hehehehe

But can you really put a price tag on a talent! And his former brides would swear that they would pay so much more for the happiness the gown brought them. Not a single Cecilio Abad bride would have something bad to say about him. Every client of his would super duper highly recommend him. So that’s really saying a lot about him.

Therefore, he’s still in the running for designing my gown.

After 7/7/07 and 8/8/08.. they say the next big two dates are 9/9/09 and 10/10/10..

Just a piece of advice.. Dont get married on September 9 next year.. Why?? You wouldn’t get married on 6/6/06 right?!

And.. oh yeah.. before I forget.. If you plan to get married on 10/10/10.. Start booking your suppliers as early as now.. Seriously I already know 3 couples getting married on that date.. And all three of them already booked their respective photographers and videographers..
